Dan Kobin

Meet the Owner

Dan Kobin – Owner and Chef

Daniel Kobin has spent the last eight years as the owner and chef of Restaurant DANO. Dan's goal was to bring great food and a comfortable setting to the surrounding community. Dan has reached out to the neighboring business community to cater to their needs; from DANO's takeout menu to the extensive catering capabilities, which have included everything from Yahoo's Christmas party for 125 people to television production studio lunches.

Born and raised in Amherst, Massachusetts, Dan originally started on a career path in classic dance. In elementary school Dan took a dance class for athletes and was hooked from then on. While at the prestigious North Carolina School of the Arts Dance Program, Dan danced with the Joffrey Ballet for four years. Upon graduation he signed up with the Alberta Ballet Company where he stayed four years.

Deciding that he wanted more control over his future, Dan decided to try his second interest in life, food and cooking. A chance meeting with Anne Rosensweig led him to the kitchen of Vanessa Restaurant where Anne had just assumed responsibility as chef. He turned down an opportunity to dance with The Metropolitan Opera to apprentice with Anne. He quickly became her "right hand" and worked with her for nearly five years. After a summer internship at La Chuise, a five star restaurant in Montefollonica, Italy, Dan came back to the states to open Over the Counter. From there he opened World Cafe and DANO, all restaurants located in lower Manhattan.
